Who he is
From Phoenix to Minneapolis, Chattanooga, and Philadelphia, Shalom was an active Ritual Director—chanting at weekday minyanim and standing at the pulpit on Shabbat with a crisp, distinctive voice. Today he lives in Katzrin, in Northern Israel, where he continues to bring the same care to Torah, tefillah, and teaching that shaped his years in the United States.
Born in Yemen, Shalom grew up in a tradition famous for serious Torah learning—from a young age, children were expected to know the text deeply, often by heart. His teacher, a Mori, went into the fine details of Torah chanting: structure, trop, and the precise enunciation of every letter, all according to the Yemenite tradition.

When Shalom later moved to the United States and continued his studies, he fell in love with the sound of Eastern European cantors—Yossele Rosenblatt, Gershon Sirota, and others. He carried his Yemenite foundation with him: clarity and accuracy as the base, cantorial melody and soul layered on top. For any student of Torah reading, clear pronunciation and enunciation of every letter matters. That is how the thousand-year tradition of trop and sound is passed down. Over the years, Shalom taught hundreds of students to stand up with confidence and read from the Torah.
At the Friday night dinner table, he sat with his children singing melodies new and old. Those songs have found their way to his grandchildren. Jewish life has been a cornerstone of his everyday life.

Congregations asked Shalom to record his voice many times over the years. Instead, he thought of something else: rather than sending recordings here and there, why not share one steady reference with learners young and old around the world—so more people could connect with Torah and build real confidence.
From Katzrin, he shares that voice with students and teachers far beyond one congregation. There are many voices online, but few that offer one consistent guide with this clarity. Shalom understands what individual tutors bring to the table.
